Look Down That Lonesome Road

Colliers Mills, NJ Last night, I set out with some good friends in search of clear skies to watch and photograph the Perseid meteor shower under. Unfortunately, those clear skies were never found. We hoofed it down to New Egypt, where we were hoping to find the closest dark skies. Instead, we found a blanket of dense fog. I stepped out of the car, opened my shutter for two and a half minutes. This is the result.

Jersey Strong

Jersey Strong Union Beach, NJ By now, this house is famous. I have been holding off posting this shot for a while now. I feel this home represents the state of the NJ coast. Bruised, battered, but deeply rooted and holding strong. I wish the best for everyone effected by this historical weather event. I too am between homes due to the storm, posting this picture from my iPhone without wifi. Lets hold in our thoughts those who may be less fortunate this holiday season. This 150 year old house was demolished just a couple days after this photo was taken. I'm happy I was able to preserve this powerful scene forever.

Marsh Moon While on my evening bike ride around Port Monmouth tonight, I captured this scene of the moon rising over the marsh, the dark band on the horizon is what is known as Earth Shadow ( AKA Belt of Venus). It is the actual shadow of Earth rising through the atmosphere as the sun sets! So glad I took my camera along.

Twins

Here's another one shot from the Hook viewing Highlands and the Twin Lights. I call this one twins. I took notes from Justin Kern Photography, who has a wonderful photograph of the Golden Gate bridge, with a piece of driftwood perfectly placed in the foreground to mirror the shape of the bridge. Here, the twin posts mirror the Twin Lights on the hill.

Sandy Hook Light

Sandy Hook, New Jersey "The Sandy Hook Lighthouse, located about one and a half statute miles (2.4 km) inland from the tip of Sandy Hook, New Jersey, is the oldest working lighthouse in the United States. It was designed and built in 1764 by Isaac Conro. At that time, it stood only 500 feet (150 m) from the tip of Sandy Hook; however, today, due to growth caused by littoral drift, it is almost one and a half miles (2.4 km) inland from the tip." -Wikipedia

The Burning of Sandy Hook

Sunrise, Sandy Hook, NJ 5/18/2013 I'm sure that to some, this photograph looks heavily "altered" and "photoshopped", it's not. In fact I had to scale the saturation back. This was among the best sunrises I've ever witnessed. I got lucky. Rose out of bed at 4:30 AM, rode my bike across the Highlands bridge and set up. The color was unbelievably vibrant, behind me, a massive rainbow arcing over the town of Highlands and Sandy Hook Bay. I must have taken over 100 photographs within the half hour, all of them equally as spectacular. I'll never forget it, and with this photograph, It's preserved forever.
